Get A Book — Mine, For Instance

The purpose of this blog is to convince you that you need to get a good book.
Coincidentally, I happen to have a book signing scheduled on Saturday, March 19, at BenLee’s Cafe in downtown Worthington, 212 10th Street, from 1 to 3 p.m. I’ll be there to sign three of my books, and to sell them to you if you’re interested.
I could even be persuaded to read an excerpt or two, if that will make you smile. I draw the line at tap dancing.
I’m not kidding, of course, when I say that what you really need to do right now is find a good book, bring it home, and curl up with it and a nice cup of hot soup. We are still in the throes of winter, a blizzard could be unleashed on us at any time, and there’s nothing that warms the innards better than a good read.
You can choose some other diversion, of course. You could kill a lot of time watching the presidential sweepstakes on television, for instance, and it certainly makes for good entertainment. But after about 10 minutes of it, you’ll be making your plans to escape to Canada.
So that’s out.
You could visit family, take a walk around the lake, or vacuum the living room. OK, fine. But once you’ve finished that, then what are you gonna do, huh?
To lose oneself in a meaningful, entertaining story is one of the greatest unheralded pleasures in life. You know it is.
I’m already working on my seventh book, but it won’t be available for several months yet, maybe not even until next year. So until then, I will have three others: “The Genuine One,” “The Old Man in Section 129,” and my latest, “Absolute Summer and Other Stories” at BenLee’s on the 19th. The first one is the fictional account of a college student undergoing a spiritual crisis, and his adventures (which includes a romance) as he tries to figure this thing out we call life. The second is a story about baseball, fathers and sons, and arriving at a point of peace. The third is a collection of 10 short stories, some quirky, some humorous, some faith-based and some a mixture of the three.
My wife Sandy and I (she plans to be there with me, so you can always say you came to see her if you’re not so excited about seeing me) would love to say hello. You don’t even have to buy a book, really. Although you should, of course.
